Chinese patent Invention Applications Hit New High in 2019 (2019-03)

According to the report released by the European Patent Office on March 12, 2019, Chinese patent applications submitted to European Patent Office reached a record of 9,401 in 2018, ranking fifth on the list of applicant countries.  In 2018, the European Patent Office received more than 174,300 patent applications, which was 4.6% more compared to that in 2017.  The United States, which submitted more than 43,000 patent applications, remained the country with the largest number of patent applications, followed by Germany, Japan and France.  The European Patent Office approved more than 127,000 patent applications last year, of which 4,831 came from China.
