China Took 2.377 million Patent Applications and 1.88 million Trademark Registration Applications in 2013 (Mar-2014)
According to the statistics of SIPO, China accepted three type patent applications totaling 2.377 million, with year-on-year growth of 15.9%, wherein invention applications reached to 0.825 million, with year-on-year growth of 26.4%, utility model patent applications soared to 0.892 million, and design applications were close to 0.66 million. What is worth noting is that the accepting number of patents for invention accounts for 34.7% of the total application, wherein the domestic patents for invention were 0.705 million accounting for 85.4% with year-on-year growth of 31.8%; while accepting overseas patents for invention applications 0.12 million, accounting for 14.6% of the total patents for invention applications, with a year-on-year growth of only 2.3%. The number of all three patents granted were 1.313 million with a year-on-year growth of only 4.6%, wherein patents for invention applications granted were 0.208 million with a year-on-year decrease of 4.1%, utility model patent applications granted were 0.693 million, and design applications granted were 0.412 million.
In addition, China witnessed trademark registration applications of 1.882 million in 2013 which increased 14.2% comparing with the year before, leading the world for the last 12 years consecutively; by the end of 2013, effective trademark registrations jumped to 7.238 million, which ranks number 1 in the world continuously.
