Beijing Intellectual Property Court Accepted 1661 Technical Cases in 2016 (Oct-2016)


Beijing Intellectual Property Court as the first specialized court to handle Intellectual Property cases accepted a large amount of technical cases relating to patents, technical secrets, computer software, etc. since its establishment in November, 2014. It is reported that up to now in 2016, said court has accepted 1661 technical cases accounting for about 22% of the total number of cases accepted in 2016, and has concluded 674 technical cases.

In order to assist judges to better find out technical facts during the examination process, said court formally set up a technical investigation office on October 22, 2015 to actively explore, based on the requirements of professional examination, the technical investigator system beneficial to the examination to the technical cases, and achieved preliminary effect. Over the past year, 25 technical investigators of said court (which includes 8 exchange technical investigators and 17 adjunct technical investigators) participated in the fact-finding work of 250 cases including 128 cases involving appearances in court, 14 cases of evidence preservation, 14 cases of inquisition, 122 cases of technical consultancy and providing 110 office actions.

In the meantime, the trial quality of the technical cases was remarkably improved, up till the present; the conclusion rate of the technical cases increased 87% on a year-on-year basis.
