More than 8,000 registrations for new agricultural plant varieties (Apr-2017)
Due to enhanced protection of plant varieties, the number of applications for new agricultural plant variety rights in China has been increasing every year. By the end of 2016, more than 18,000 applications have been filed for new agricultural plant varieties in all of China and more than 8,000 applications have been registered.
In China, "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of New Plant Varieties" was promulgated on March 20, 1997 to establish the system of protecting new plant varieties. In accordance with the relevant provisions, agricultural plant varieties are protected for a period of 15 years from the date of registration.
